If there was any doubt before, 2017 is officially the year of our favorite awkward girl Issa Rae. The multi-hyphenate producer, writer and star of HBO’s hit show Insecure has just been named the newest face of CoverGirl.

The beauty took to Instagram Tuesday (September 12) to break the news, writing “I remember being an awkward black girl in high school, reading the pages of my favorite magazines, casually flipping through @COVERGIRL ads, singing their slogan in my head. Never EVER in my life did I imagine I’d be one. I am SO honored and SO excited for what’s to come.”

Issa joins an impressive bevy of women in entertainment to front the beauty giant including Queen Latifah, Janelle Monae, Rihanna and Zendaya. Even still, this is hella groundbreaking. She doesn’t come from the beauty or music world. Her natural hair is more kink than curl and she’s not your traditional kind of beautiful. But, she is winning.

“Becoming a COVERGIRL means a lot because the brand recognizes just how important it is for people to embrace their individuality and express themselves in unique and diverse ways,” said Issa in a press statement. “This has been a major part of my personal journey, and a message that I want to share with others.”
