‘Daddies Do Hair’ Celebrates Bond Between Black Fathers and Daughters
This Father’s Day event is breaking stereotypes and building young girls’ confidence.
The bond between a father and daughter is undeniable and there is something especially heartwarming when we see fathers developing and showing off their hairstyling skills on their little girls’ hair. Daddies Do Hair is celebrating that bond Father’s Day weekend with a special event on Saturday, June 19 in Brooklyn, NYC.

The fourth annual event is founded on the premise that girls learn about self-love through their fathers, says Stephanie Fleary, founder of event company Empower Stilettos.
Fleary was inspired by her own childhood memories of her dad combing her hair. “I want to create the same heartwarming memory for my daughter and others’ daughters,” added Fleary. The day-long activities include a fathering panel discussion, Black-owned vendor shopping, and of course, live hair demos.
She also want to help dismantle the stereotype that Black fathers are not active in their children’s lives.
“There have not been many examples of positive representation of amazing black fathers in media and society in general,” she added. “There is a global attack on Black people. While we cannot solve all the underlying problems with racism in the world, we can create moments of joy and self-love, giving Black men a voice and young Black girls confidence.”
“Daddies Do Hair” will take place Saturday, June 19, 11 am to 4 pm at the P.S. 161, located at 330 Crown Street in Brooklyn, NY.
