Toss Out These P&G Products With Cancer-Causing Chemicals Right Now

More and more haircare products are making the recall list due to cancer-causing ingredients. The latest to make the news are dry shampoos and conditioners from Proctor & Gamble’s Pantene, Aussie, Herbal Essences, Waterl<ss, Old Spice, and Hair Food collections. The recall also includes Pantene Gold Series Instant Nourishing Spray which is marketed specifically to women with natural hair. Many women of color also keep these dry shampoos on hand for their wigs and weaves to dull greasy or shiny residue.

Either way, Procter & Gamble has advised consumers to immediately throw the products away due to the detected presence of benzene, a known carcinogen.

“While benzene is not an ingredient in any of our products, our review showed that unexpected levels of benzene came from the propellant that sprays the product out of the can,” said the company in a press statement. The levels aren’t high enough “to cause adverse health consequences,” according to the release. “However, in light of these findings, we have issued a voluntary recall at the consumer level. Consumers should stop using and appropriately discard the affected aerosol dry conditioner spray products and aerosol dry shampoo spray products.”

The voluntary recall was announced in mid-December. Here is the full list of recalled products you should be tossing out immediately.
