Co-founders Gibson and Backe were inspired to launch Worth-Up Alliance after being forced to shut down their STARRING By Ted Gibson salon at the height of the pandemic. While they were able to weather the storm — and even “protest” reopening — they realized many other beautypreneurs were not so fortunate.

The Dream Capital grant is administered through Beauty Changes Lives. Through Worth-Up Alliance, they are connecting a collective of top experts to help nurture and empower beauty creatives through entrepreneurship education, coaching mentorship, networking, and more.

Gibson, whose client roster has included such beauty icons as Angelina Jolie, Lupita Nyong’o, Janelle Monáe, and Tessa Thompson, is both a celebrity stylist and celebrity. He also made history as one of the most expensive haircuts (think $2,000 and up)! In addition to operating the world’s first smart salon, he and Backe recently returned to reality TV last December with Paramount+ “Blowing LA.”
