Vice President Kamala Harris made history today as the first woman, first Black American, and first South Asian woman to be sworn in as U.S. Vice President.
We might be getting back to politics as usual, but it looks like Harris is going to be making all the fashion statements. The highest-ranking woman in America had us gushing over her lewk for her historic day, pulling up in a stunning bluish-purple ensemble designed by two Black fashion designers.

The vice president’s tea-length jacket was designed by Christopher John Rogers, who won the 2019 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund and 2020 CFDA American Emerging Designer of the Year. Her dress, we have heard, was made by Sergio Hudson (who also slayed our forever First Lady Michelle Obama’s inaugural look).
Harris also rocked another Black fashion label Pyer Moss, the evening before the inauguration for a COVID-19 memorial. The camel coat was designed by Haitian-American designer Kerby Jean-Raymond, who founded the brand. It also made fashion waves with its detailing, including the pleated back.
Harris’ fashion statements are a welcome nod to our forever FLOTUS Obama who often wore designs by Black, indie and minority designers. Having platforms to showcase our works are integral for representation and normalizing diversity in designers and fashion.
