Paying for cosmetology courses can be a huge hurdle for emerging hairstylists. Palmer’s is helping future beauty pros overcome that with a new scholarship program. The cocoa butter giant’s new Stylist Scholarship and Gabrielle Corney Mentorship Program will provide full tuition to two Black students to attend the Brittany Beauty Academy in New York.

The recipients will receive access to mentorship and intern in the salon with celebrity stylist and Palmer’s brand ambassador Gabrielle Corney. In addition, Natural Partners in Crime founder Sabrina Boissiere will provide social media and business training.

Corney, whose client list includes Kandi Burrus, En Vogue, and Neicy Nash, is excited to be able to help raise up the next generation of beauty professionals.

“I think the power of mentorship not only benefits the mentee, but it fuels the soul of the mentor, as well,” Corney told Sadiaa. “I always wanted to be able to share my professional experiences with a beauty school student with the hopes of inspiring them to fulfill their dreams of being in the industry. I measure true success by how many people you are able to help.”

Palmer’s launched the program to help advance diversity and inclusion within the beauty industry and empower multicultural women to take the next step in their professional careers. Queens native Onica Alexander has already been selected as a winner. A second recipient is set to be announced later this month.

“Our brand has always been committed to supporting and advancing the Black and LatinX communities,” said Rebecca Brown, Palmer’s VP of Marketing, in a recent statement. “We are honored to be sponsoring this life-changing opportunity to guide these future hairstylists through their journey and introduction into the natural hair community through every touchpoint including education, business acumen, and social media skills.”
