Beauty enthusiasts are still eating off of Monday’s Met Gala and we are here for all of it. Especially since we’re still learning the deets behind some of our faves’ looks for fashion’s biggest night out. Case in point: Gabrielle Union’s custom silver Versace gown styled by Thomas Christos.

Union and her husband Dwayne Wade are known to serve up fashion goals. And no details were left unturned for the night. The sequinned gown with plunging neckline was inspired by the incomparable Diahann Carroll.

While this was nowhere near the timeframe of the night’s Gilded Glamour theme, who are we to not celebrate the glory of this recreation.

Once we got over all of the sparkle and shimmer, we were even more wowed by the meaning of Union’s deep middle-parted bun. At first glance, the dangling trio of red crystals appeared to just be an accent to complement the voluminous rose on the band of her train.

However, celeb hairstylist Larry Sims shared they were a poignant nod to the history of enslaved and recently-free Africans in America during the late 1800s.

“They represent the blood that was spilled during the Gilded Age, from Blacks and people of color,” he explained while sharing how to recreate the look at home. So, of course, we had to go back and watch the clip below to get a close-up look of the back.

Yes, this was everything!

And, to let crystals like that shine, you need a simple, solid base. Sims reached for a suite of products from Flawless by Gabrielle Union, the texture-focused haircare line he co-founded with Union, to craft his. Our faves include the Repairing Edge Control and the Restoring Exotic Treatment for sleeking and nourishing her brushed down ‘do.

To be honest, we didn’t remember much after the crystal comment, because, wow! The slay is always in the details — and here, it was in the hair.
