Wash day is already hard enough, and choosing the perfect hair gel for a wash-and-go can lead to an endless cycle of trial and error. I’ve made back-and-forth trips to the beauty supply so many times and still couldn’t seem to find a good gel to smooth out my frizzy curls. Thankfully, the trial team at BREAD Beauty Supply was on my side when they set me up with my newest favorite product yet.
The Black-owned brand’s new Hair-Gel Curl Capturing Gloss ($26) has got me hooked. It is giving glossy hydration to my 4a curls while helping to protect my hair from breakage and drying out. This gel works best when my hair is wet to see the definition in my curls. But, it’s not just for my curls — I can even wear my sleeked-down styles in whatever way I choose.

I also love that it’s all-natural. BREAD describes this hair-gel as “a water-based botanical styler for all types of textured hair with hydrating and protective powers.” Basically, it’s formulated without all the harsh chemicals that are typically found in other gels which dry out and damage our hair.
The gel is also algae-based, which means it will give you an incredible hold that will smooth your hair cuticles, adding a protective layer to protect damaged hair. So, it not only helps to repair and strengthen the hair shaft but also helps to moisturize, hydrate and define our curls and coils.
While the non-sticky formula also keeps my hair frizz-free by the time wash day comes around, the scent is what keeps me coming back for more. It has a citrusy aroma of yuzu extract (a cross between a mandarin orange and a grapefruit), and it’s loaded with natural potassium and antioxidants that also help to boost shine. I ended up with the glossy finish I had been missing with my other gels.

On top of killer curls, BREAD won me over by staying true to its mission that haircare shouldn’t feel like a chore — it should be fun. I can have fun with sleek styles throughout the week without the dryness and frizz.
