Bronner Bros Launches Black Beauty Relief Fund For Pros Impacted By COVID-19

Just days after announcing a new virtual experience for its semi-annual International Beauty Show in the wake of the pandemic, Bronner Bros has launched a new Beauty & Barber Relief Fund to help support Black beauty and barber professionals.

While Black folks outspend other demographics nearly nine to one in hair and beauty in a multi-billion dollar industry, we have also been hit the hardest. The Black beauty pros represent nearly 25 percent of all cosmetology professionals — hairstylists, barbers, stylists, dermatologists, etc. — whose doors have been shuttered and left them unable to generate income.
“To many of us, barbers and stylists are like family. They do more than cut and style our hair,” said James Bronner, SVP Show Operations for the Bronner Bros. Beauty Show, in a recent statement. “They are trusted advisors and their shops not only offer a safe haven for our community, but also serve as an economic engine for entrepreneurship.”
The new fund will provide $500 to licensed beauty professionals and $1,000 to salons/shops with 5 or more employees to help cover such needs as food, rent or mortgage, utilities, medical expenses, transportation costs, or other essential financial obligations caused by the economic impact of COVID-19.
“COVID-19 has halted the ability for stylists and barbers to generate income in a manner that is unprecedented,” Bronner added. “We hope this effort will help in some small way.”
The campaign will also provide free online resources to help stylists and barbers succeed in this new normal.
The Beauty & Barber Relief Fund is sponsored by Royal Oils by Head & Shoulders and Gold Series by Pantene, along with Global Beauty Alliance, the Association of Natural Hair Care Professionals, and The Concerned Beauty and Barber Professionals.
“Royal Oils and Gold Series are proud to support Bronner Bros. as they continue to uplift the multicultural beauty industry,” said Lela Coffey, P&G Multicultural Beauty Brand Director. “Our stylists and barbers are essential to the culture of local communities and, without question, deserve our support during this difficult time.”
To be eligible, individuals and businesses must have current cosmetology licenses, have been financially impacted by the pandemic, and demonstrate a financial need. Applications will be accepted beginning Monday, May 25 through May 30.
