9 Hair Trends Top Hairstylists Are Checking For This New Year

This year is all about finding your personal style and celebrating your beauty. Tym wants people to focus less on trends and more on looks that work for them. 

“Stop looking for fads,” he says. “It’s not a [true] form of expression,” if everybody is doing it. “Let me see who you are, ‘cause right now I’m seeing a character.”

You don’t have to follow the next big trend, either, to get your slay on. “It may not seem sexy at first, but healthy hair and a good haircut that fits your face and your personality will take you much further than an of-the-moment look that you regret later,” says Monaè.

And, if you are going to dupe a red carpet or runway look, Larry recommends focusing on how to actually “adapt into your real everyday lives.” He also says to take note of celebs (like Zendaya and Gabrielle) who continue to buck trends and are not “conforming to industry standards of what’s deemed to be acceptable or beautiful or not too Black.”

This is definitely the year of being yourself.
