2020 Trend: Slay Muted Hair Tones

Rainbow, unicorn and mermaid colors may have been a lace front go-to, but the experts are calling for more muted tones in 2020. 

“A few years ago, I wanted to see more women of color wear more color,” says Kim, but now she’s calling for them to be on the “softer side.” Think muted, cooler tones like rusks, taupes and beiges” that may run pastel, but are more realistic.

Tym agrees, with both saying to avoid brassy tones. He’s looking for “subtle colors, the more natural-looking highlights, the low lights, the even tones.”

If going light, he says think Mary J. Blige, where the textures and colors complement her skin tone. “Mary wears a blonde that works for her. It’s rooted, and it’s just a perfect blend of colors that works for her skin.”
