The natural hair looks from Netflix’s new family-friendly film Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey is giving us all of the feels. The film debuted Friday with a nearly all-Black cast and rare authentic representation of Black hair on film. The hair team, led by Sharon Martin, created Victorian styles that not only had us rethinking our next ‘do and jumping for joy to see our kinks and curls on the screen.

Seriously, Phylicia Rashad’s salt-n-pepper locs, newcomer Madalen Mills’ bantu knots, and even Forest Whitaker’s Fredrick Douglas-meets-Gumbi side part afro served up Black hair excellence.

“I purposefully chose hairstyles for Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey that highlighted natural hair,” said film producer Lyn Sisson-Talbert in a recent statement. “I want my community and people of color all over the world to see themselves featured in the characters David E. Talbert created, especially our 7-year-old son and other boys and girls.”

So, we were too thrilled to hear that Netflix has teamed up with Black-owned haircare brand Mielle Organics to help us recreate those looks and highlight the importance of representation.

The new “Rooted In Holidays” campaign will feature hair tutorials and a five-part holiday video series. In addition, special co-branded boxes have been shared with influencers including must-haves from Mielle’s haircare collections for their young girls.

Sisson-Talbert continued, “To be able to partner with Monique Rodriguez and Mielle Organics was kismet. We share the same passion and goals, just in two different mediums; to create a platform where natural hair is normalized, creating a specific need for more natural hair specialists, products, and education in the industry.”
