7 Modern-Day Black Inventors Who Are Making Hair History

The Trinidad and Tobago native holds two patents for a hair-twisting system he has dubbed the Twist-It Up comb. The innovation looks like a mini tennis racket, but works like a sponge brush to twist natural hair and define the curl pattern.

The pattern allows hair to be twisted all the way down at the roots without breaking hair while also producing a more finished look. Even better, it can be washed and sanitized.

He first started development in 2015 and made national headlines last year after an appearance on the investment show “Shark Tank.” Prior to his appearance, he had already made $140K in sales — now it’s a multimillion-dollar business.
