7 Modern-Day Black Inventors Who Are Making Hair History

In 1990, Carol Randall secured a patent for her invention of an ear brace she designed to protect ears from chemical burns from dyes, relaxers and perms. The brace, which also helped protect hair from nasty hot comb burns, works by folding and holding the ears forward with two small clips.

Randall also holds a patent for a portable tissue holder.
