“I am elated to work with Mielle Organics to bring new education and venture capital opportunities to Black women worldwide,” said Knight Pulliam in a recent press statement. “It’s amazing to partner with a company that has so much mutual synergy when it comes to sewing into our community. I’m honored to celebrate their seven-year anniversary.”

The new initiative is part of Mielle’s $1M More Than A Strand Fund created to help entrepreneurs rebuild, sustain and advance their businesses. In partnership with Rutgers University and Newark Business Hub Education, it will provide 60 Black female entrepreneurs scholarships to attend the NBH Professional Online Global Entrepreneurship Certificate Program. The classes will be held in partnership with and will cover such courses as Setting Up a Business, Generating Revenue, Marketing, Scaling and Financial Management.

This has been a groundbreaking year for the brand. It has been billed as one of the fastest-growing natural hair companies in the industry, growing over 160% in sales in 2020, alone. Last month, the brand secured a $100M Series A investment from Berkshire Partners and co-founder Monique Rodriguez is now part of a list of less than 100 Black woman founders who have secured $1M or more in investment funding.

Applications for Mielle’s 2021 Global Certificate Program are now open through June 15. Winners will be announced on June 30. Upon program completion, 10 of the top-performing applicants will be selected to travel to South Africa and compete for Series A funding in 2022.
