Tennis phenom Serena Williams is putting her powerhouse plays to work with a new capsule collection that is not just serving up fresh looks, but also helping build up the next generation of designers.
Her Serena Williams Design Crew collection dropped Wednesday (Sept. 1) with an assortment of ’90s-inspired tops, cut-out bodysuits, crop tops, and footwear designed by a cohort of 10 emerging designers from her apprenticeship program aimed at promoting diversity in design.

“With Nike, I’m bringing my love for sport and design together, working to build more inclusive, equitable communities in both while inspiring new generations to fall in love with sport and pursue their dreams,” said Williams in a recent statement.
The designers — Emil Blanco, Julio Colon, Sandra Cruz, Juan Huerta, Toussaint King, Emiko McCoy, Mika Osoro, Simone Sullivan, Bria Thomas, and Sheena Wong-Shue — incorporated elements from Williams’ history-making career to create the retro-futuristic collection.
That includes a nod to her 23 Grand Slam titles, gold medal wins, and her daughter’s initials mixed in with reimagined African Kente patterns and color palette that could complement a wide range of skin tones.
“For everything we created, the narratives were told through two themes: lineage, encompassing Serena’s past and present, and utopia, which is the future she’s currently influencing,” said Wong Shue.
