Contemporary fashion brand Hanifa just celebrated its 10th anniversary with a fashion show for the gawds Tuesday (Nov. 16) night. Founder and designer Anifa Mvuemba hosted the brand’s first-ever in-person runway show in Washington, D.C. debuting her 2021 Fall/Winter “Dream” collection.

The show opener — a stunning blue and white-trimmed trench coat rocked by model Tish — set to the tone for Hanifa’s mod and ’70s-inspired collection. More than two dozen models of all body types stomped the runway rocking the brand’s new footwear and while draped in body-hugging satin and knit dresses, cuffed blouson pantsuits, evening wear, and even a mod trench mini-dress. And, the detailing was everything — from scalloped necklines, fringe, and metallics to daring color blocking and hip-grazing slits.

“I’ve always wanted my impact on fashion to go beyond the clothes,” said Mvuemba during the show’s opening montage. “I want women to feel loved to see themselves as limitless in a world that may be screaming otherwise.”

Mvuemba has built a loyal following over the years with the brand’s direct-to-consumer drops inspired by her Congolese heritage, featuring vibrant colorways, bold prints, and size-inclusive silhouettes.

She cemented her brand as the future of fashion after her groundbreaking 3D virtual fashion show during the height of the pandemic in spring 2020. Not only did it take our collective breaths — it garnered global attention (and inspired other fashion houses to take the 3D plunge).

Since then, celebs such as Gabrielle Union, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kehlani, Tamron Hall, Monica, and Melissa McCarthy have been spotted in her looks. Mvuemba went on to win the 2020 CDFA Vogue Fashion Fund and the 2021 InStyle “Future Of Fashion” award just one day before the show.
