Whether he’s behind the chair or in front of the camera, celebrity hairstylist Jonathan Wright is a whole mood! At any given moment, you are sure to be cackling, in awe and sometimes just plain “unalive” in his presence. You will also be surrounded by nothing but beauty and leave feeling beautiful and fly AF.
That is why Sadiaa Black Beauty Guide was so thrilled to honor Wright with our first-ever “Tastemaker” at our inaugural Black Beauty Room & Awards this past weekend. The award recognizes a beauty professional who not only epitomizes what it means to “look good and feel good,” but also sets trends and transforms how Black men and women experience style and fashion.

There is no denying he is all of that. Wright is a hairstyling superstar. He has had a groundbreaking impact in the beauty industry, serving up mane slay for some of our fave celebs while also educating everyday hairstylists on the art and nuances of wig application.
Just six years ago, at 19 years old, was dressing celeb clients for red carpets until he found his niche in hairstyling and impeccable wig techniques. And by the time he was 23, he had made his first million. When I first met and interviewed him for Hype Hair in 2020, he was styling the likes of Megan Thee Stallion, SZA, Asian Doll, and Blac Chyna with fans waiting up to an hour and longer just to take a picture with him. Of course, his clientele list has continued to grow with such hair divas as Asian Doll, Ashanti, Lil Kim, and more. The way he makes a wig melt, you get it.
While his skills, hair education workshops, and now his own downtown Dallas salon, Freenn’s Palace, are helping him rake in even more coin and clients, it’s his “hey Freeenn” personality that wins him a loyal fan following that rivals Hollywood celebs. And he brings a genuine sense of joy and fun to helping everyday men and women master confidence with their crowns.
