All The Deets Behind Angela Bassett’s Winning Critics Choice Awards Look

The ever-amazing Angela Bassett wowed on the red carpet Sunday night at the 2023 Critics Choice Awards before taking home her second award this season for Marvel’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

Bassett posed it up alongside her husband and actor Courtney B. Vance while showing off her arms in a black strapless Christian Siriano gown featuring tiered ruffles and a floor-grazing train styled by Jennifer Austin and a shimmery face beat by D’Andre Michael.

And, if you didn’t know, Bassett is known for rocking a signature power ponytail. This time, instead of opting for a voluminous face-framing texture, she and her longtime hairstylist, Randy Stodghill opted for a slicked-back low ponytail with barrel-ironed curls.

“Angela is a sophisticated woman who has style and class,” shared Stodghill. “She doesn’t follow trends or try to be something she’s not – and this is what we wanted to capture in her look tonight!”

We all know the secret to healthy (and healthy-looking) hair is moisture and shine — and Stodghill pulled out his PHYTO bag of tricks, using the brand’s Phytospecific Baobab Oil, massaging it through the scalp and hair. He also used it as a protector with Phytodefrisant Anti-Frizz Touch Up Care to smooth down her hairline.
