Top fashion students will be getting a major boost next week at Fashion Group International of Dallas’ (FGI Dallas) 55th annual scholarship competition.
Students will send their top designs down the catwalk in a “Project Runway”-inspired fashion show. Their works will be judged live in one of six apparel and merchandising categories for a chance to win prizes totaling more than $40K.

Top prizes include the “Fashion Excellence” and “Director’s Choice” awards, each offering $5K, and the “Couture” award, which covers tuition and expenses to Paris American Academy.
The event is themed “Fashion Forward: Motivating Minds in Design” and marks the first in-person awards event since 2020.
“It has been an extraordinary past few years as we have been challenged under the unprecedented circumstances of a pandemic,” said Nerissa Hempenstill, Regional Director for FGI Dallas, in a recent statement. “FGI Dallas has been very proud to have continued awarding scholarships via virtual events in 2020, 2021 and 2022.”
The awards show will also feature educational and interactive programming with local fashion professionals and a keynote by Maryann Cairns, assistant professor of anthropology at SMU. Prior to the show, students will have the opportunity to interact and learn from top industry professionals during a day symposium.
