IBS New York 2024 is shedding some welcome light on Black beauty entrepreneurs with its Powerhouse Pavilion initiative. Now in its second year, the Pavilion centers Black-owned beauty brands, such as MYAVANA, Twelve12 Beaute, Ashtae, Paris my Fro, Camille Rose, and Loclicious, providing space for much-needed education and conversations.

Black women continue to be the fastest-growing demographic of entrepreneurs, yet they still remain the least funded and, often, the least visible. This is even more true when it comes to the beauty industry. Despite significant contributions and innovations, Black entrepreneurs — who now represent 11.1% of the total U.S. beauty market — still find themselves left out of major beauty industry events, trade shows, and narratives.

“Questex constructed this pavilion to enlighten our audience about representation, empowerment, and entrepreneurship,” said Alexi Khajavi, President of Questex Travel + Wellness. “Recognizing the development of this vital community of entrepreneurs, who are among the fastest growing in the country and wield a significant presence in the beauty industry, became essential.”

The 2024 edition will also provide a platform to amplify the voices of the industry’s top Black beauty professionals, including Faatemah Ampey, Keya Neal, and Monaè Everett, as they discuss challenges and opportunities within the Black beauty market — and the U.S. market, as a whole.

Feature panels include:

“I’m thrilled to be a part of the Powerhouse Pavilion at IBS New York this year,” said Ampey, who is hosting the “Deep Conditioning” panel. “It’s important to not just celebrate our achievements but also to strategize and implement actions that drive lasting equitable change fo Black entrepreneurs within the beauty industry. I’m honored to stand alongside industry peers to work towards a future where our contributions are recognized, respected, and integral to the industry’s growth. Together, we’re not just making history; we’re shaping a more inclusive and equitable beauty landscape for generations to come.”

IBS New York 2024 takes place March 3-5 at the Javits Convention Center. To register or for more information, visit ibsnewyork.com.
