We are absolutely loving seeing Joy Bryant and all of her bohemian slay in recent appearances for ABC’s new legal drama For Life. The beauty has been hitting up red carpets and screenings with back-grazing braids that have been giving us life.
The protective style is her answer for slaying press rounds and life between filming. “Rocking braids is like the easiest no-maintenance look for me and I love it — especially when they’re like tickling your butt,” she said in a recent interview.

Though, she shared, while her lengthy braids are low maintenance, they are not always convenient.
“I was getting my hair done — braided in box braids last night right up until I had to go to a work thing,” she said. “I mean, literally, the last braid, dip the ends in water, and run out the door. I ran outside with wet hair! You know what I’m talking about,” she laughs. “That synthetic hair!”
Who knew she shared our same struggles when looking at that last patch of hair to be braided?!

Joy is also living her best life while helping get the word out on the new series where she plays Marie, the estranged wife of the lead character, Aaron Wallace played by Nicholas Pinnock. Co-produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, it is inspired by the life of Isaac Wright, Jr., who was wrongfully sentenced to life in prison who studied law to free himself and also help his fellow inmates.

She revealed that she didn’t know the script was based on a true story when she first auditioned.
“I had no idea who Isaac Wright, Jr. was. I didn’t know anything about his story. All I knew is I read this pilot and it was really powerful,” said Joy. “Then I found out about him and that it inspired this potential series. That totally made it something that I had to be in. I already knew that I wanted to be involved, but made it that much more special.”
She added that the role affirmed the power of belief. “Nothing moves, nothing can happen if you don’t believe in yourself. It all starts there. In relation to Isaac, he would not have been able to achieve the things that he was able to if he did not believe himself. And, I’m sure people were like, ‘Wait, what? What are you going to do? Nah, son.’ But he did it. That to me was the biggest takeaway.”
