Black fashion is on the rise — and not just in front of the camera. Many designers are finally getting their due as celebrities and models flood social media and red carpets with their latest lewks. And, as they create full-on collections with major retailers like Macy’s and Target, everyday fashionistas want in. Especially when collections, literally, sell out in days.
The Black Fashion Movement (BFM) is seeking to help change that with its latest venture: a traveling fashion pop-up shop for Black designers, June 17-20. The BFM will not just bring more than a dozen designers center stage, but also make it easier for consumers to shop their collections.

The runway-worthy shopping experience will feature must-have fashion finds from a diverse selection of women’s and men’s apparel, swimwear, shoes, jewelry, and cosmetics brands.
The Designers
The first stop, in North Texas, will feature more than a dozen BIPOC designers, including:
Aisha McShaw Designs (Aisha McShaw – New York, NY)
Dawn Franklin Designs (Dawn Franklin – Dallas, TX)
Don Morphy (Donald Mofor – Dallas, TX)
Gina Gant (Regina Porter – Baton Rouge, LA)
Kendall Miles Designs (Kendall Miles – Chicago, IL)
Many of these artisans have been featured in major publications and worn by such celebs as Beyoncé, Gabrielle Union, Keke Palmer, Bishop TD Jakes, Porsha Williams, Mimi Faust, and more.
The Mission
Making fashion accessible has been a major part of BFM founder Frenchye Harris’ mission. She first founded Black Fashion Movement last year as part of Black History Month campaign to help normalize not just celebrating but buying and wearing Black-owned fashion brands. Since then, she has built a community of like-minded fashion industry professionals, going from hosting monthly roundtables to now producing the traveling pop-up.

“The unavailability of Black-owned brands and products that serve the African American community is profoundly impacting the African-American path to purchase”, said Harris. “Creating in-store opportunities for Black customers to touch, feel and try new products while shopping could be essential to building long term loyalty.”
The first stop will take place June 17-20, daily, from 12 pm to 6 pm at the iconic Dallas Galleria, located at 13350 Dallas Parkway in North Texas. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit galleriadallas.com.
