While folks are still talking about the infamous “Slap of 2022”, this year’s Oscars drama was all about fashion and slay. Tops on our list is Winnie Harlow’s classic slay for her first Oscar Awards appearance. The beauty stunned in a body-draping Armani gown from the fashion house’s 2005 archives styled by Zadrian and Sarah. Her look featured a black zipper eqivalent of a graphic liner accented with a black rose, which she completed with a coordinated black clutch and black crystal Alexandre Birman sandals.

Her look, Harlow said on the red carpet, was all about “nice beautiful soft hair and glowing skin — and a lot of Cay Skin on the skin” — and her team did not disappoint.

For her hair, hairstylist Davontaé Washington served created an “effortless” textured updo. “The inspiration behind the look for Winnie was vintage Hollywood,” Washington told Sadiaa Black Beauty Guide. “This is her first Oscar red carpet — we wanted to do something fresh and different, so we decided on a daytime messy french roll.”

We love that he opted for easy-to-access styling tools to create the look, including KISS Colors & Care Edge Fixer Hair Wax Stick to polish her edges. Instead of opting for a slicked back ‘do, he played up her texture by wand-setting the hair and then loosely french-rolling the back half with bobby pins. “Not too tight because you still want it to have texture,” he added. From there, he teased the top of her hair, pinning the hair into the roll, while strategically pulling out face-framing tendrils.

Speaking of face, her glam beat was courtesy of makeup artist Adam Burrell whose beauty bag of tricks included VIOLETTE_FR Yeux Paint in Caramel Chaud and Tout Doux. He called them “the perfect ingredients for a soft, warm smokey eye” in his Instagram stories.

And of, course, he used Harlow’s own beauty line Cay Skin, including her Isle Glow Face Lotion SPF 45 and Isle Lip Balm SPF 30. Harlow, who has vitiligo, created the line specifically to help keep her natural glow while protecting her delicate skin.
