The folks at NU Standard are on a mission to educate hair pros across the nation about its groundbreaking Hydrasilk bond system. The Black-owned brand has launched a six-city tour in support of the first-ever bond system curated by a Black woman for textured hair to be distributed by Cosmo Prof.
Brand founder Autumn Brown Yarbrough partnered with a Black woman chemist to formulate the two-step system, which includes a Bond Builder and Silkner. The science-backed formula works at the molecular level to hydrate, improve hair bond structure, and strengthen the overall hair strand.

“This is a dream come true,” Yarbrough told us at the brand launch. “When I was starting this product, I wanted to focus on styling, but make it easier — not dry and brittle. I also wanted to focus on performance over promise.”
Since then, Yarbrough has been hitting the hair circuit with her mantra of “Respect the License” to get the two-step system into the hands of licensed hairstylists who style textured hair. Now, she has partnered with Cosmo Prof with a look-and-learn tour to provide in-person demos and education on the science of how bond systems actually work. She will be joined by Lenita Griffis-Browning, chief education officer/textured hair expert and Alana Snowden, education director.
“Our partnership with licensed professionals is instrumental. They are an important pillar to achieving hair wellness for everyone,” Yarbrough in a recent press statement. “With this tour, we look forward to edu-taining professional stylists on HYDRASILK products and teaching them how to maximize healthy hair results for their clients with our products.”
Yarbrough also wants to educate the rest of us on the importance of skipping a kitchen beauty session every now and then to get styled by a professional. “I believe there needs to be a partnership with a stylist on their hair health journey,” she told Sadiaa.
