Parton’s connection to Black women extended beyond sharing an appreciation for wigs and dramatic beauty. One of the most meaningful examples came through Whitney Houston’s soaring rendition of “I Will Always Love You.”
Whitney transformed the song into a global anthem while honoring the writing at its foundation. Parton celebrated Whitney’s interpretation and later revealed that she used some of the royalties to invest in a predominantly Black Nashville neighborhood. She affectionately called the property “the house that Whitney built.”
That moment showed what support can look like when it moves beyond praise.
Parton acknowledged the Black woman whose voice expanded her legacy and intentionally allowed that success to flow back into a Black community.
The final lesson may be the most important: If Black women help amplify your work, show up for us in return.
