Don’t Wait For Permission

Parton did not wait for the fashion industry, beauty gatekeepers or male executives to validate her look. She decided what being a star looked like and showed up as that woman until the rest of the world caught up.

Her beauty was intentional, but so was the business behind it. The wigs, nails, rhinestones and body-conscious silhouettes created a visual identity that remained recognizable across generations. Long before “personal branding” became a marketing buzzword, Parton understood that image could communicate ownership. She did not ask whether she was allowed to look glamorous, ambitious or artificial. She gave herself permission.
