2. Learn What Makes Your Hair Feel Cared For

Every friendship requires listening, and your relationship with your hair is no different.

“Over time, we can get buildup,” Branch explained. “The products that we use for our hair sometimes can be very rich. They can be very decadent.”

Moisture matters, but curls also need a clean foundation. Branch recommends paying attention to the scalp and choosing a cleansing method that removes buildup without leaving the hair dry and tangled.

“You really want to get something that’s clarifying, but moisturizing and detangling,” she said.

That balance will look different for everyone. One person may need regular shampooing. Branch recommended Miss Jessie’s Honey Harmless – Honey Shampoo “to give you the cleansing that you need without drying your hair out.” Another person may alternate between shampoo and a moisturizing cleanser such as her original Co-Wash.

The important part is recognizing when your scalp needs cleansing, when your strands need moisture and when another layer of product is not the answer.

Sometimes loving your hair means giving it more. Sometimes it means washing some of that “more” away.
