3. Stop Asking Your Hair To Be Somebody Else’s Hair

Curlfriends are wonderful for recommendations, but they can also cause curl envy. We see someone else’s perfectly defined twist-out, buy every product she used and then blame our hair, or her, when the results look completely different.

The problem may not be your curls. You may simply be following instructions written for someone else’s hair.

Branch said Miss Jessie’s tries to use language that helps customers tap into their specific needs.

“We’re very descriptive in coming up with the words that describe your hair,” she said. “We really try our best to point you in the best direction.”

Your curl pattern is only one part of that description. Density, strand thickness, porosity, climate and styling habits can also affect how a product performs.

Be inspired by your curlfriends, but do not expect your hair to imitate theirs. A healthy friendship leaves room for individuality, including the individuality growing from your scalp.
